Hot
weather to persist over NE: June 19
RMC, Borjhar said
that the presence of a low pressure system over the West Central Bay of Bengal
and its adjoining North West Bay of Bengal over South Odisha and Andhra Pradesh
Coast, has led to rise in temperature in the NE region. The low pressure system
and its associated cyclonic circulation, which is extended up to 7.6 km above
the mean sea level, has been preventing flow of moisture from the Bay of Bengal
to the NE region, causing less rainfall activities in the region these days.
This condition is likely to persist for the next 48 to 72 hours, Das said. He,
however, added that local level thunderstorm activities in isolated areas over
the region are expected during this period. Guwahati today recorded a maximum
temperature of 35.4 degree C.

estimate this year’s wheat output at about 90 million tonnes, nearly 5 per cent

million tonnes. Since wheat is largely grown in India’s central and northern

NE records all-time
high June temperatures: June 26
Itanagar today
recorded a maximum temperature of 39.5 degree Celsius, while Dibrugarh recorded
38.2 degree C and Kohima 32.4 degree C during the day. These were the highest
daytime June temperatures of these NE towns till date. Other places in NE
recorded maximum temperatures upto 37 degrees C. RMC, Itanagar attributed this
situation to the presence of a low pressure system over south-east Bangladesh,
which is associated with an upper air cyclonic circulation extending up to 4.5
km above the mean sea level. Due to this system, wind pattern over NE is mainly
northeasterly and easterly and this is causing a rise in the day temperature.
However, rainfall is observed in rest of NE, barring its northeastern part, due
to this low pressure system and locally developed thunderstorm activities.
